For several years while on the path of transformation, I made it a personal goal to use the mess of my life as my message.
My personal missteps led me to a life behind bars, where I spent 15 years and 9 months. I had a long time to think and learn about the mistakes I’ve made. During this time, I learned about the criminal justice system and its many flaws that plague society. Instead of allowing this plague to infect me, I decided to go a different route; I chose to empower myself with knowledge. Education has been the catalyst that opened my eyes to a bigger picture of life.
We are all interconnected and have a role to play in other people's lives. It is said that stories are magnets that draw people together. As such, I hope to draw many people together, by telling my own story, a prisoner's perspective on the social justice system. For the past 15 years, I have been looking forward to contributing my story to aid in the community’s understanding of what happens in prison and ultimately, social justice reform. It all starts here.
I am scheduled to make my first speech on February 27th, 2023 at the University of New Hampshire with Journalist and Professor Mei-ling McNamara's Journalism classes. Mei-ling is an incredible person who has given me an opportunity to share my story and hopefully change lives for the better.
